In a recent publication of Ligonier Ministries publication Table Talk, in an article titled “Purchased by His Blood,”  Anthony J. Carter, the author of the article draws our attention to the purchasing power of the blood of Christ. In the article he focuses in on the power of Christ’s blood to purchase for Himself a people of His own. He then asks a very pointed question, “whom did Jesus purchase? Thankfully he leads us to the biblical answer found in Acts 20:28.

The following is a quote from the article:

Our Lord’s blood has purchasing power, not only to obtain us but also to cleanse us, wash us, sanctify us and to make us righteous and holy. We must remember that heaven does not deal in dollars, euros, or even gold or silver. The only currency that is of value in heaven and throughout eternity is the blood of Christ. Its the only currency that is going to get you in.

If the atoning sacrifice is able to purchase and cleanse, and it is the only “currency” recognized in heaven then it makes perfect sense that the atonement paid for exactly what it set out to purchase, the church.

Heb 10:10, 12 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 12 But when Christ [2] had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

Christ purchasing power only paid for the church with His precious blood! Thanks be to God!
